The Bay Reps from northern Michigan (10-8-1) came to compete Friday evening giving Flint Powers Catholic all they could handle in a 4-3 contest. Their record was not an accurate reflection of the caliber of team they represent. The Bay Reps high powered offense came into the game with 78 goals for in 19 games with 30 netted on the powerplay. The Bay Reps are a cooperative Varsity program comprised of seven high schools surrounding the Traverse City region of the state.

The Bay Reps drew first blood at the 12:28 mark of the first, when senior forward Jagger Smith wristed one from the point slicing through the traffic and by netminder Peyton Lenger. Soon after, Chargers Trey Carlock evened it up when he buried the leg pad rebound from Brenden Tarpening’s snapshot. Just before the close of the first period, Powers Cooper Gerhardt from the corner, found Jacque Lavrack in the slot as he spun around to his backhand putting it past netminder Garrett Hathaway.

The Bay Reps continued their physical presence halfway through the 2nd period when Tyeson Griffore was called for checking from behind. The Chargers jumped on the powerplay opportunity resulting in the Gerhardt to Barbour give-n-go down low bumping the lead to 3-1. Barbour then struck back again with his 2nd goal on the night, when Lavrack threaded the needle with a beautiful pass hitting Barbour on the back door. With just 3:09 left in the 2nd, Bay Reps Campbell Holland deflected a shot from the slot closing the gap by 2. Early into the 3rd, the Bay Reps were delivered a five-minute major for boarding giving the Chargers another great chance to increase the lead. Unfortunately, the Chargers couldn’t take advantage of it. At 8:57, the Bay Reps capitalized on another deflection from the point by senior Aaron Ackerson making it a one goal game. The Chargers strong penalty kill was tested at the 5:49 mark when Weston Reinig was called for checking from behind resulting in a five-minute major. The Chargers burned the penalty, closing out a nice hard-fought game to start the weekend. Peyton Lenger’s earned his 4th win between the pipes.
