Chargers poised for a successful 2023/2024 season!

Coming off an historic season, winning the first state title for any hockey program in Genesee County, the Flint Powers Chargers look to continue their dominance going into the 23/24 season. This past weekend the Chargers were able to supply a preseason assessment in exhibition play. Powers faced off against the D2 state finalist Byron Center Bulldogs from West Michigan. A team resembling the likes of Powers, who is plugging in new talent due to a significant absence from their 23’ senior class. Similarly, Byron Center has proven to hang among the state’s best, competing in the state frozen four, three of the past four years. The Bulldogs will open their season Nov. 17th vs hometown foe Grand Rapids Christian.

Friday’s exhibition format consisted of two 17-minute periods and one period allotted for each team to focus on their power play and penalty kill. Both the Chargers and Bulldogs demonstrated the ability to seize opportunities in the standard and special teams of play. From a Charger perspective, the new additions showed promise on both offense and defense, displayed solid possession, puck movement and team chemistry.

The Charger staff will be leaning on the returning upperclassmen experience to help fill the void of last year’s grit, leadership and point production. Big shoes to fill as the Chargers graduated multiple All-State performers. The returning members consist of juniors: Andrew Parmentier, Brody Neelands, Andrew Burny and seniors: Blake Zloto, Caleb Doll, Alex Rinoldo, Matt Lavoie, Tom Lavoie, Nolan Berner and Brendan Sly.

The Charger squad will open their season against the D1 Clarkston Wolves this coming Thursday. A highly anticipated contest that was postponed twice last year due to inclement weather.

First Game: Thursday, Nov. 14th @ Clarkston, 6pm

Detroit Skating Club, Denison Court, Bloomfield Township - C Rink
