Flint Powers Catholic held onto a 6-3 victory Wednesday despite a third period rally by host Midland.

Midland found success on offense first, scoring on a Yoodang Hwang goal from Shane Dunsmore and Jordan Miller early in the opening period.

The Chargers extended its lead to 4-1 in the second period on goals by Brendan Smith and Gormley.

“I thought we moved the puck well and played solid defense in the first two periods,” Powers Catholic coach Travis Perry said. “You never like giving up two goals in the third period, so I wasn’t happy about that.”

Midland began its rally early in the third period with goals by Luke Trombley and Hwang to cuts its deficit to 4-3 with just over 11 minutes remaining.

Riley Stewart scored from Delong and Smith to give Powers Catholic some breathing room and a 5-3 lead.

Spencer Owens added another goal with just under five minutes remaining to put the Chargers on top 6-3 and secure the win.

Austin Kane made 18 saves in the win for Powers Catholic (5-2).
