Senior Brian Hubbard scored twice, and the Detroit U-D Jesuit boys hockey team won its seventh-straight game Saturday in a 5-3 win over Flint Powers Catholic.

Matt Meininger, Christian Karbler and Peter Hunt of Jesuit each added a goal. Garrett Gormley, Derek Simon and Brendan Smith of Powers Catholic scored, while the Chargers’ Connor Owen tallied two assists.

“It was a close game overall,” Powers Catholic coach Travis Perry said. “I liked the way we played, but  few timely mistakes hurt us.”

Multiple penalties in the second period allowed Jesuit to open up a 3-1 lead going into the third period, a lead that they’d never give up.

“Their fourth goal was a back-breaker,” Perry said. “We scored on a power-play to get down one, and then they came right back to get a two-goal lead.”

The schedule doesn’t ease up for Powers Catholic, who will host Bay City Central, ranked fourth in Division 1, on Wednesday.

“It’s going to be a battle,” Perry said. “We’re going to have to bring our best game.”
