Dan Delong led the Flint Powers Catholic boys ice hockey team with two goals as it built from a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period to top East Grand Rapids 6-3.
East Grand Rapids topped Powers Catholic 6-2 last season.
"We came out today and had a good start," Powers Catholic coach Travis Perry said. "It was pretty impressive. We let off the gas a little at the end, but we're still pretty happy with the game."
Jake Ploucha, Riley Start, Mike Forman, and Stefan Cramer each contributed a goal. Goalkeeper Austin Kane had 22 saves.
Powers Catholic is now 6-0 overall and ranked No. 3 in Division 3. The team plays No. 1 ranked Cranbrook Kingswood on Saturday.
"Cranbrook Kingswood is always one of the top teams in the state," Perry said. "Hopefully we can give them a game.
"We thought scoring would be our weakness, but we've been able to score a lot. It's the biggest surprise so far."
