Sophomore Connor Witherspoon scored a pair of goals to help the Flint Powers Catholic boys ice hockey team -- ranked the No. 6 Division 3 squad in the latest MiHockeyHub.com poll -- defeat Mount Pleasant 5-3 on Wednesday.

Mike Forman contributed a goal and two assists to the win. Jake Ploucha notched a goal and an assist, and Riley Start also scored.

"Mount Pleasant is a solid team, and it was a tough, physical game," Powers coach Travis Perry said. "It was nice to see some of our young guys step up and score some goals.

"One of those guys was Connor Witherspoon, who is still trying to find his niche on varsity. We're still working to get him to take more shots, but he played one his better games of the year tonight."

Powers will take on Culver Military Academy -- a program that was won five consecutive Indiana state championships -- for the first time in program history on Friday.

"We don't know what to expect fully, but we're looking forward to a tough challenge," Perry said.
