The Chelsea Bulldogs visited Flint Powers Catholic for an intense hockey match at the Crystal Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. Chelsea came equipped with a 10-0 record and stellar Senior goaltender  Derek Schaedig. Powers got on the board first at 11:44 of the first period on the power play when Junior forward Brendan Smith launched a rocket from the right point. Junior forwards Chase Knoblock and Conor Witherspoon assisted on the play. Flint carried the play for much of  the 1st period keeping the puck in Chelsea's end. Powers applied tremendous pressure on Chelsea at the end of the 1st but could not get the puck by Schaedig. Chelsea came out hot in the 2nd period and at 6:08  with Powers in the box for slashing, Chelsea forward Alec Daman scored to knot the game at 1-1 with Jack Smith assisting on the play. The teams adjourned for the intermission tied at 1-1.

Powers broke the tie in the 3rd when  Conor Witherspoon forced a turnover and got behind Chelsea’s defense to score the go ahead goal at 16:42. Junior defenseman Jake Polakowski assisted on the play. At 7:06, two Bulldogs went off for boarding and high sticking, giving Powers a two man advantage. The Chargers capitalized on the opportunity 13 seconds in when Witherspoon slammed home a beautiful feed from Junior forward Jon Thomas for his 2nd goal of the game giving Powers a 3 - 1 lead and, ultimately, the win. Powers goalie Patrick Hoedeman turned in a solid performance with 16 saves. Powers next game is Wednesday, January 6 at the Midland Civic Center against their Saginaw Valley League rival Midland Dow.
