Powers Wins 33rd Regional Title

27TH WIN OF THE SEASON IS A TEAM RECORD

The Flint Powers Chargers quickly and efficiently captured its 33rd regional championship and team-record 27th victory of the season versus Walled Lake Western in Saginaw on Saturday.

The Chargers jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. Junior forward Cam Conover started the goal parade at 13:15 of the first on assists from junior forwards Christian Wentworth and Luke Evo. Mr. Evo scored the second goal at 6:11. Senior defenseman Garrett Johnson and Christian Wentworth (his second) had the assists. Just under two minutes later, senior forward Brendan Smith put the biscuit in the basket with the assistance of senior forward Conor Witherspoon and the Captain, Jake Polakowski. Exactly one minute later, junior forward Keigan Wildfong chipped one in to make 4-0 in favor of Powers. Senior forward Jon Thomas assisted on the Wildfong goal. Less than a minute later, junior forward Cam Lieffers scored with assists from Cam Conover and senior defenseman Hans Hering.  The teams went to the intermission with Powers leading by a score of 5-0.

The Chargers picked up where they left off in the second period when Brendan Smith scored the second of his two goals at 15:23. Conor Witherspoon (his second) and Hans Hering (his second) assisted on Smith’s goal. Conor Witherspoon stuffed the turkey at 6:16 with the assistance of Brendan Smith and senior forward Chase Knoblock. Powers scored its eighth and final goal of the contest at 3:36 when sophomore forward Mason Weiss took it to the hole. Jake Polakowski netted his second assist of the game on the Weiss tally.

Dr. Zero, Parker Rey was flawless in his fifth consecutive shut-out.

The Chargers will travel to Dimondale on Wednesday to take on a formidable Forest Hills Central squad.
