Despite losing 11 seniors from last year’s powerhouse hockey team to graduation, Flint Powers appears to have simply reloaded their talent pool.

Powers faced off Wednesday night against Jackson Lumen Christi in a physical contest at the Optimist Arena in Jackson and skated away with a 5-3 victory to remain unbeaten.

Freshmen forward Tyler Lawrence started the scoring for the Chargers by snapping one past Titan goalie Gavin Warner at 14:25 of the first period assisted by line mate Connor Korhonen and Josh Warda.  Bear Kennedy answered for JLC with a goal assisted by defensemen Spencer Mazur to tie the contest just before the end of the first period.

The Titans took a 2-1 lead to open up the second period on an unassisted tally from Keegan Smith.  Flint Powers quickly went to work scoring three unanswered goals.  Cam Conover drove one home off of a rebound with assists going to Cam Leiffers and Lance Mullin.  Minutes later senior forward Sam Lechel picked up a puck in the neutral zone and flipped a highlight reel top shelf backhand over the shoulder of the Titan net minder assisted by Christian Wentworth and Luke Evo.  Less than a minute later Leiffers out muscled a Titan defender in the slot and rippled the twine to give Powers a 4-2 lead.  The Titans fought back and cut into the Charger lead with a goal from Jarrett Boldt with 27 seconds remaining in the second period.

The hard hitting action continued throughout the period until the 2:58 mark of the third when Cam Conover found the back of the net again on an assist from Mike Wilson and Luke Evo icing the game for Flint Powers 5-3.

The Chargers outshot the Titans 32-19 in the contest.

Powers will be back in action Saturday night when they take on Grand Rapids Catholic Central at the Midland Event Center at 5:30pm.
