Number two ranked Flint Powers collided with number nine ranked Grand Rapids Catholic Central at the Midland Civic Arena Saturday night.  Mike Rinoldo’s goal late in the third period led the Chargers past the feisty Cougars 3-2.

The hard fought first period ended in a 0-0 draw with the Chargers out shooting GRCC 8-5.  It was not until mid-way through the second period when Powers forward Sam Lechel scored drawing first blood with assists from Evan Babka and Christian Wentworth.  Minutes later Wentworth followed up with a goal of his own off the dish from Josh Warda and Josh Kovach putting the Chargers up by two goals.

The Cougars roared back with an unassisted goal from Jacob Onstott followed by a goal from Sam Shwierking knotting the game 2-2 with 35 seconds remaining in the second period.

Both teams found the scoring difficult until the final five minutes of the game when senior forward Mike Rinoldo capitalized by banging home  a rebound for the game winner putting Powers up for good, 3-2.

Powers travels to Gaylord this weekend to play in the D3 Challenge taking on Alpena Friday night at 6pm and East Grand Rapids Saturday night at 6pm.
