Flint Powers displayed a balanced scoring attack Friday night to beat the Allen Park Jags at Crystal Fieldhouse 4-2.

Freshmen Tyler Lawrence put the Chargers on the board first when he knocked home his third goal of the season at the 8:22 mark assisted by Mike Rinoldo and Matt Hutchings. Dylan Alchin evened the score for the Jags when he slipped one into the net to close out the first period.

Mid way through the second period, Christian Wentworth took a pass from Cam Leiffers and snapped the biscuit to the twine to temporarily break the tie for Powers 2-1. One minute later, Kieran O’Connell left the Chargers no breathing room as he scored again for the Jags knotting the score at two all. Not to be out-done, Evan Babka “Babs” scored off assists from defensemen Josh Warda and Carson Snyder to regain the lead for Powers 3-2.

The third period remained scoreless until 2:47 when Powers senior forward Connor Korhonen won a power play draw back to fellow senior Keigan Wildfong who made no mistake sniping one past the Allen Park goalie and putting the game away for the Chargers.

Powers goalie Adam Cantley was solid between the pipes stopping 24 of the 26 shots he faced.

Powers will travel to Midland Wednesday night to take on the Midland Chemics for a Saginaw Valley showdown.
