Powers Shuts Down Grand Blanc

Game Recap- Powers vs. Grand Blanc Bobcats

The Powers Catholic Chargers Varsity hockey team traveled to the Dearborn Federal Credit Union Event Center for a Wednesday evening scrap with the Bobcats from Grand Blanc. Powers would keep on rolling with an overwhelming shut-out mercy of the Bobcats 13-0 improving to 11-3-2 overall and 5-1 in the Saginaw Valley League.

Powers would score at will on the Bobcats as seven different Chargers found the back of the net in the first period of play. The scoring started just 35 seconds in as Kyle Barbour would score his first of two goals in the period beating Bobcat Sophomore goalie, Nick Hensley, short side. Hensley faced relentless pressure all period as the Chargers built their lead with goals from Gunner Birmingham, Jacques Lavrack, Tyler Lawrence, Eddie Barbieri, Alex Washburn and Joey Carpenter, who also had 2 tallies during the first frame. Powers would dominate the shots on net 17-2 in the first period.

Powers finished off the Bobcats with 4 more goals in the second period with 2 goals by Tyler Lawrence. Alex Washburn added a goal and Nolan Salayko would complete the scoring with a break-away goal late in the period.  Several Chargers had multiple points in the game, led by Joey Carpenter with 6 points, Tyler Lawrence with 5 points-- Alex Washburn and Kyle Barbour each had 4 points on the night.  Tommy Shubeck and Tim Washburn added 3 assists each during the contest. Charger Goalie, Brenden Churchill would only face 5 shots all evening as he earned his 3rd shutout of the season. Churchill  also added an assist, with a beautiful up ice saucer pass to Salayko on the Chargers last goal!

Powers Coach, Travis Perry commented that “we will get to see what type of team we have with 5 ranked teams coming up in the next two weeks”  Powers will be away vs. Midland Dow on Friday night in Midland at 7:45pm.
