There is an old saying in sports that defense leads to championships. The Chargers played great defense against Saginaw Heritage handing the Hawks their first league defeat in over 2 years 5 to 0.

Mason Czarnecki scored first for the Chargers at 4:49 of the first period burying a pass from Tyler Lawrence for the only goal in the 1st period.

Later in the 2nd period while shorthanded, Tyler Lawrence stole the puck from the Hawk defenseman in the Hawk zone and snapped a shot past the Hawk goaltender for a shorthanded goal.

In the 3rd period, Mason Czarnecki, took a half ice pass from Kyle Barbour and sniped a shot over the left shoulder of the Hawk goaltender.

With 5:22 left in the 3rd period, Mason Czarnecki muscled his way toward the Hawk net, his shot, saved by Hawk goaltender and came to rest just shy of the goal line. Tyler Lawrence heading toward the net, banged the loose puck into the net for his second shorthanded goal of the game to put the Chargers up 4 to 0. The Chargers held the historically potent Hawk power play off the board killing 3 penalties.

Cooper Gerhart finished the scoring for the Chargers scoring his second goal of the season. Nolan Berner registered his second assist of the season.

Nick Kurtiak continued his stellar play in net registering making several great saves and recorded his 2nd consecutive shutout of the season.

The Chargers host East Grand Rapids Friday February 19th before travelling to Crystal Fieldhouse to take on the Lapeer Lightning on Saturday February 20th.
