Powers Wins Thriller in OT

The Chargers hosted East Grand Rapids Pioneers for a Friday matinee game at Iceland arena, pulling out a gutsy 2 to 1 in overtime.

The teams played a scoreless first period as the Chargers couldn’t put one by Pioneer goalie Austin Stankowski.

The Pioneers scored first 3:18 into the second period to break the deadlock.

The Chargers finally lit the lamp 13:42 into the second period Trey Carlock backhanded a shot past the Stankowski. Mason Czarnecki and Kyle Barbour netted the assists on the play.

The third period was up and down as Nick Kurtiak and the Stankowski stole the show each making game saving stops sending the game into overtime.

With just 27 seconds left in overtime, Mason Czarnecki scored on a goal mouth scramble to give the Chargers the overtime win. Kyle Barbour and Tyler Lawrence assisting on the winning goal.

Nick Kurtiak made 22 saves for the game and picked up his 4th win of the season.

The Chargers look to continue their winning streak travelling to play Lapeer Saturday at Crystal Fieldhouse in Burton.
