On a brisk sunny Saturday at Flint Iceland arena, the Powers Chargers kept their winning trend alive with a 6-0 romp over the Chelsea Bulldogs, making it 3 consecutive victories. Both teams recently came off 4-0 wins respectively. Powers blanked Howell and Chelsea shutout Plymouth.

The first period was back and forth as puck possession was balanced. The first penalty was called at 10:46 when Chelsea’s sophomore Shane McLaughlin was called for holding. The Chargers early scoring opportunity came up short when Mason Czarnecki teed up the puck for Cooper Gerhardt on the back door for a one timer, but Gerhardt didn’t have enough wood on it. Then at 9:46, a scrum ensued in front of the Chargers net resulting in both Czarnecki (roughing) and Reinig (cross checking) being sent off to the box. Bulldogs junior Drew Sherwood also was penalized (roughing). The Bulldogs were unsuccessful on their 5v4 powerplay. At the 3:56 mark, the Chargers drew first blood on Trey Carlock’s 3rd goal of the season assisted by Czarnecki and Tarpening. Soon after, Brendan Sly was put in a 2-minute timeout for a cross check battling off a Chelsea Bulldog. Netminder Peyton Lenger came up with a couple solid saves distinguishing any potential shorthanded goals.

At the 13:34 point into the 2nd period, Gerhardt caught Chelsea’s netminder cheating off his post, as Gerhardt walked out of corner backhanding it to the net sliding it home short side (assisted by Dawley and Lavrack). Less than a minute later, the Chargers found themselves back on the powerplay lighting the lamp when Barbour made it 3-0, as he stepped just in inside the right circle launching it top shelf from a pass by Reinig. As the pressure mounted, Tarpening knocked home 1 of his 2 goals on the night with the helpers from Czarnecki and Carlock. Three minutes later Charger’s Tarpening (2nd of game) took a pass from Czarnecki using Chelsea defenseman as screen on a 1v1 beating netminder Byron Bayer 5 hole. The lack of discipline and composure escalated between both teams as five penalties were handed out just in the remaining three minutes of the 2nd period. Chelsea’s best chance of the night to notch their first goal came at the 10:36 point in the 3rd period. Netminder Peyton Lenger had other plans making a great breakaway save to keep the Bulldogs off the board giving him his first shutout of the season. Nolan Berner capped of the night making it 6-0 with assists from Luke Cramer and Kyle Barbour. Final: Powers 6 Chelsea 0
