Another packed house Wednesday night at Flint Iceland arena. The Flint Powers Chargers (6-1) hosted the Jackson Lumen Christi Titans (6-1). Jackson coming into the game with their only loss served up by the Chelsea Bulldogs 4-3. Just two seasons ago, the Titans posted a 23-win season. Despite a very early mishap in the start to Wednesday’s game, the Chargers continued their winning dominance!

As the puck dropped, if you blinked your eye, you would have missed the Titans first goal. Just six seconds into the game, off the initial faceoff, the puck was played back to the Chargers’ defenseman who mishandled it attempting a pass to his D partner. The Titans’ quick senior forward Kavin Kennedy pounced on the opportunity simply burying it passed netminder Peyton Lenger’s glove side. At that moment, many had disbelief written all over their face not excluding the Powers coaching staff. One would have thought this may be a long night. Not so fast, as the Chargers secured the equalizer at the 6:17 mark of the first when senior Jacque Lavrack scooped up a loose puck inside the Titans’ zone snipping the upper left corner. The go-ahead goal came with just under two minutes left in the first period when Salayko came roaring down the left side slipping it by Titans’ netminder Matt Hoop. Shortly after, the Chargers’ bench was called for too many men on the ice. The Titans were not able to generate much of anything on the powerplay, heading into the second down by a goal. Powers outshot Jackson 9-5.

In the scoreless 2nd period, the greatest scoring threats were presented when the Chargers were shorthanded on Weston Reinig’s tripping penalty. Late into the second, the Titans were handed out back-to-back penalties for slashing and crosschecking. The Chargers could not find the back of the net as their powerplay season woes continued. Shots on goal were 5-5 apiece.

At the 14:43 mark into the 3rd period, the Titans went on the powerplay and were denied for the 3rd time when Trey Carlock was sent to the box for holding. Powers went up 3-1 when Nolan Berner blazed down the right-side beating Jackson’s Hoop. Moments later, the gritty work in the corner by Mason Czarnecki and Cooper Gerhardt paid off. Gerhardt gained possession passing the perfect dime to Brendan Sly, notching his first career goal in a Powers uniform, going top shelf. Gerhardt completed the “playmaker” (3 assists) for the night when Kyle Barbour sealed the deal, giving the Powers Chargers their 7th win on the season capitalizing in the slot making it a 5-1 game.

Final: Powers 5 Jackson LC 1
