The Chargers (9-1) with six consecutive victories, headed down to the Detroit Skating Club Wednesday night to face off against the Bloomfield Black Hawks (5-2), who compete in the Oakland Activities Association-White conference.

Both teams went back and forth as it took quite a while to get settled in. Powers Brenden Tarpening took the first penalty of the night at 9:11 as both teams racked up seven a piece. It wasn’t until the 2:29 mark into the first period, when Chargers Dawley made a spin move in his own defensive zone to dodge the Black Hawks forechecker, going the length of the ice to bury it in the upper right 90. With only one goal scored going into the 2nd, Michael Tucker didn’t waste very much time displaying great hustle off the draw picking up the puck behind the net and squeezing it short side to bump the Powers lead to 2-0. Powers powerplay unit was a breath of fresh air as they were able to peel off two back-to-back goals ending their long powerplay skid. The two goals came from Weston Reinig ripping a slapshot from point and Tucker attaining his second of the night with a slapper from the slot. Jacob Malenich closed out the period with confidence, by stepping up off the blueline timing the bounce off the boards and blasting it by Black Hawks netminder making it 5-0. Mason Czarnecki opened the 3rd period scoring by receiving a dish from Trey Carlock executing the 2 on 1. Midway through the period, senior captain Kyle Lucia placed the Black Hawks on the board. Moments later, Cooper Gerhardt circling in the slot knocked in a quick pass from Brendan Sly behind the net to go up 7-1. As if it seemed Powers was starting to look ahead to next week’s game, the Black Hawks struck again in front of goaltender Nick Kurtiak. That was short-lived as Gerhardt notched his 2nd of the night. Followed by senior Luke Cramer, sealing the deal, demonstrated solid patience placing it top shelf short side. Between the pipes, Kurtiak secured the win, and the Chargers are moving along at 10-1 on the season. Next Wednesday, the Chargers will see their toughest opponent ranked D1 #1 Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks.
