This past Wednesday, the Chargers traveled down to the Ice Den, to face-off against the Howell Highlanders in a non-league midweek contest. A match up that consisted of a shutout, numerous penalties, a couple first career points and a victory.

Just minutes into the first period (15:22), Braden Mitter of Howell took the first penalty of the night, yielding no quality chances for the Chargers. At 12:24, both sophomore defenseman Brody Neelands and sophomore forward Matt Lavoie registered their first varsity high school career points by assisting on a pass to Junior Nolan Berner, who netted a wrister from the point. Soon after, Alex Rinoldo was called for a tripping penalty and the stout Charger PK unit took care of business. As the teams continued to trade off powerplay opportunities, senior netminder Peyton Lenger stoned a Highlander forward, who squeezed in all alone by the Charger defender. Immediately after, Lenger came up with a nice sprawling leg pad save as the Chargers burned off the Czarnecki kneeing penalty. Throughout the 2nd period, Lenger continued to deny multiple Highlander scoring opportunities. It wasn’t until 26 seconds remaining, that senior Michael Tucker took a pass from Mason Czarnecki and found senior Weston Reinig, making a quick deke and backhanding it by the Highlander goaltender to go up by two. It did not take long for the Powers robust offense to raid the Higlander netmider once again. The alertness of defenseman Kyle Barbour paid off when he slung the biscuit down the left side of the boards to Brendan Sly. Sly then carried into the offensive zone finding his linemate Cooper Gerhardt for the snipe to make it 3-0. Closing out the game not only with the strong performance by Lenger but also by Gerhardt with his 2nd pt of the night. Gerhardt taking notice of the man advantage, circled behind the offensive net and hit a creeping in Jack Dawley for a quick one timer to seal the deal.

Peyton Lenger earned his first win and shutout of the young season making 22 saves! Total shots:
