The Chargers hosted the Bay City Wolves in their first Saginaw Valley conference match up. Both the Wolves and Chargers entered the game posting a 3-1 non-conference record. The Wolves have demonstrated that they can be lethal in the offensive zone as they have notched 19 goals in just 4 games before stepping into Iceland arena.

The fire power coming from seven different Powers Chargers proved to be more than the Wolves could handle Wednesday night. The scoring onslaught didn’t begin until nearly the halfway point of the first period. The Chargers had to kill off an early Reinig roughing penalty before the lamps were lit. Charger sophomore Andrew Burny opened the scoring with his 2nd goal of his young varsity career at the 9:25 mark (assists Sly, Czarnecki). Following the Burny goal were both Brendan Sly (assists Czarnecki, Gerhardt) and Kyle Barbour (assists Kurtiak, Gerhardt) taking turns to put the Chargers up 3-0 to close out the period.

The lone score of the 2nd period came on the power play when senior Cooper Gerhardt re-directed a shot from Reinig sneaking by the Wolves netminder. With multiple Wolves penalties carrying over into the 3rd period, the Chargers seized the 5 v 3 moment when senior Barbour netted his 2nd of the night with the helper coming from Reinig. Moments later, senior Michael Tucker came roaring in on the left side of the net to put away Barbour’s dish making it 6-0. The Charger horsepower still did not show any mercy. At 5:05, sophomore Andrew Parmentier capitalized on his aggressive play burying a loose puck on the right side of the goal. The Wolves finally made their way to the scoreboard on a 2 v 1 execution by leading goal scorer Gunnar Weber. My guess is that the team highlight of game came with a minute to go, when senior Kevin Adriaens scored his first varsity goal in a Charger uniform closing out an 8-1 victory.

Goaltender Nicholas Kurtiak had a solid performance earning him his 3rd win and received his first assist of the year.
