As the Flint Powers Chargers continue to work towards getting back to a full healthy roster, they did pivot in the correct direction Friday night. The Chargers squared up against the Tri-Valley Titans (3-9) comprised of Swan Valley, Bullock Creek, Clio, Meridian, MLS and Carrollton), who play out of Saginaw at the Bay Ice Arena in the Mid-Michigan conference.

The energy bottled up in senior alternate captain Mason Czarnecki did not go unnoticed from the drop of the puck. With a packed house on hand, Czarnecki quickly snuck in a wraparound goal on Titans goaltender Noah Wakefield (assists Gerhardt/Berner) on his first shift. Back from a two-game suspension, Czarnecki was paying dividends early as he netted his second goal within four minutes of the first period (assist Barbour). The Chargers displayed exceptionally clean puck movement throughout the first and second period. The Titans keep the score respectable in the first period, with very solid net minding from their sophomore Wakefield. Junior Nolan Berner topped off a filthy sequence from Gerhardt and Czarnecki, sniping the top right 90 to bump the Chargers 3-0. At 8:05 point in the 2nd period, a mishandling by two Powers defenders at their own blue line, led to Tri-Valley’s first of two goals on the night by senior Blake Berger. Early into the 3rd period, Czarnecki struck again, banging one in off the iron for the hat trick. As the gates widened, Gerhardt jumped on a loose puck, firing a quick snapper from the slot, beating Wakefield for his first of two (assists Parementier/Czarnecki). Then at 8:24, Tri-Valley’s senior Nathan Masar used his jet like quickness to angle off the Charger defender placing one by goaltender Peyton Lenger. The Chargers finished off the Titans with scores form Gerhardt (2) dangling the Titan defender opting for the backhand execution (assists Reinig/Barbour). Moments later, Michael Tucker took advantage of a nice dime from Dawley/Neelands, burying it in the upper right corner. Goaltender Peyton Lenger earned his 3rd win and the Chargers improved to 12-3 on the season.
