The host site for the Region 21 of the Michigan state playoffs is at no other than the Flint Iceland arena. The four teams that make up the region consist of Bay City Wolves, Flint Powers Chargers, Thumb Area Legion and the FNV Griffins. A nice crowd on hand, witnessed the continual dominance in the Powers Chargers lopsided victory over the Thumb Area Legion this past Saturday.

The Chargers started out with a little difficulty getting the lamp to light early in the first period. Senior Legion netminder Seth Hiles (a former Flint Jr Firebird), was determined to potentially finish his last high school game standing tall and he did just that eventually facing 60+ shots. At 12:19, Michael Tucker struck first for the Chargers. Then, Cooper Gerhardt piggy backed Tucker with his own tally during a scrum in front of Hiles. You will not find too many high school players in the state who can skate like the Chargers junior Nolan Berner. Berner decided as he rounded his own net, why not go coast to coast and that is what he did sniping Hiles short side. With the peppering of pucks, Greg Feamster brought that “Holmstrom” like disruption on the perimeter of the crease while junior Jack Siwek notched the Chargers 4th goal of the game. Entering the 2nd period with a sizable lead, the Chargers decided to press the pedal to the floor. The Charger speed and skill set continued to simply be too much for the Legion as they rattled off five consecutive scores. Led by Berner’s second of the night, redirected Kyle Barbour’s shot from the point. Then from the corner, Barbour patiently setup junior Tom Lavoie who trailed into the slot, executing a one touch shot between Hiles legs. The seventh goal came from sophomore Andrew Burny lifting it top shelf short side past Hiles. The eighth goal happened on a close-range snipe from Barbour through a high traffic goal mouth. And the closer, delivered by junior Alex Rinoldo, exploded his way to the net, backhanding a dish from Kevin Adriaens, landing across goal line before he barreled the goaltender. Mason Czarnecki aided his teammates providing five helpers on the evening. Senior netminder Peyton Lenger provided the duties between the pipes earning his first playoff shutout.

Final: Powers 9 Legion 0

Next Game: Wednesday, Mar 1st, versus Bay City Wolves at Flint Iceland arena 6pm.
