A great evening at Flint Iceland arena Saturday as the Powers Chargers (7-3) hosted the Marysville Vikings (7-4). A day where the 2023 State Championship team was honored with their State Champ banner raised to the rafters prior to puck drop. An abundance of proud supporters boasted with excitement, especially the Powers Hockey Alumni brotherhood, as they cherished the moment with current and former family and friends. A day where Coach Perry secured his 350th win as a head coach in his 18th season. And a day where the Chargers shut out the Vikings in a two period mercy 8-0 to improve 8-3.

The Chargers peppered the Vikings’ netminder right out the gate. They looked to light the clock with an early attempt on the powerplay but lacked form diminishing any real scoring opportunities. The first real Charger threat came on a 2 on 0 when Landon Miller dished across the slot to Andrew Burny who was simply toned by Vikings’ goaltender Ryan Winn. At 16:10, sophomore Ayden Cook cycled in the slot area and buried the puck in the upper left iron to put the Chargers on the board. Then again at 2:37 of the first, a complete snipe in the upper right corner by the rocket Ayden Cook (2nd). Just over a minute remaining, senior Caleb Doll and Gavin Vorwerk issued up a two man advantage to the Vikings. The Chargers terminated the Viking power play with their robust pk unit..

At 15:22 of the second period, Brendan Sly lifted the Chargers by three, sneaking in on a breakaway when served up the center by defenseman Andrew Burny at the Vikings’ blue line. A selfless triangular combination occurred at the 7:52 mark when Sly entered the Vikings’ zone, passing the biscuit off to Cook who patiently slid it over to Burny for the Chargers’ fourth goal. Twenty seconds later Doll knocked in a Winn rebound. At 6:23, Dru Wendlend redirected the wrist shot from Ethan Haley near the top of the circle. Cook then bagged the hat trick when he wheeled from center ice, dangling his way to goal executing the sick backhand upstairs. Sophomore Vorwerk placed the dagger in the Vikings on his left side rebound tally. Netminder senior Blake Zloto earned his second shutout and his 6th win between the pipes.

Final: Powers 8 Marysville 0
