Powers notched their fourth consecutive win over Detroit Country Day, with the most recent being a nail biter last March 4th, 4-3 in the state quarterfinal. Another deep division III lineup reflected in numerous programs around the state with the reemergence of the Northern/UP pipeline of talent. The second half of the season should make for some fantastic tilts in all four corners of the mitten.

As the polar vortex visited the Midwest and more importantly disrupted the local agenda for many residents here in Mid-Michigan, there was a window of opportunity this past Saturday to see the Flint Powers Chargers duel with the Yellow Jackets of Detroit Country Day.

The Yellow Jackets came out firing in the first period, testing Powers senior netminder Blake Zloto within minutes. At 13:40, Chargers Parker Bendall was called for roughing. The Yellow Jackets penetrated the Powers penalty kill with a clapper from the point, making its way through traffic and past Zloto to take the lead. A traditional physical battle between these clubs ensued. At 5:24, junior Andrew Burny skated down low in the offensive zone and launched a missile to the top shelf, netting the contest 1-1.

Tied at one apiece headed into the second period, the Chargers started to press the pedal to the floor. At 15:19, with a bit of commotion in front of netminder Asher Zachs, Sophomore Gavin Vorwerk busted to the net receiving a dish from Nolan Berner to steal the lead. At 12:51, the Charger power play paid off when Andrew Parmentier connected with Ayden Cook. Cook zipped down the ice as if there were only cones on the ice. Cook went to his stealthy backhand to lift the Chargers 3-1.

Goaltender Blake Zloto stood tall in the third period as Cook finished off the Yellow Jackets with his second snipe of the day, beating Zachs five-hole.

Final: Powers 4 DCD 1
