The Midland Chemics (10-9) tested the Flint Powers Chargers (15-6) in a low scoring conference match up Wednesday night at the Midland Civic Arena. The Chemics looked to spoil the Chargers chances of winning the SVL title out right next Saturday at home vs their I-75 rival Saginaw Heritage.

Despite the possession domination by the Chargers and out shooting the Chemics 18 to 3, the game remained scoreless in the first period. Senior tendy Blake Zloto was the main reason. At the 1:52 mark, the Chemics forward slid into the Charger zone on attack, 1 on 1 with Zloto. Zloto read the snipe attempt stoning the Chemic trespasser with a blocker save. The Chargers killed the Chemics power-play to close out the period.

The Chemics freshman netminder Andrew Partipilo held his ground throughout the evening until the Chargers turned up the pressure spraying pucks at the net. At 4:09 of the second, the high powered sophomore Ayden Cook found the back of the net, scraping his way through the crease. The helper came from the Chargers defenseman Matt Lavoie. The second period shots favored Powers 34-9.

Nearly half way into the third period, Brendan Sly notch his team leading 20th goal of the season, with a quick release on the draw from Andrew Parmentier. As the Chargers led by two, the Chemics pulled their netminder. With 45.8 seconds to go, Parmentier collected the puck near the Charger blueline and sauced it into the empty net for the night cap. Zloto secured his 3rd shutout and earned his 12th win of the season.
