Chargers Topple Bay City
Bay City Wolves @ Flint Powers
Wednesday 1/22/2025 @ 6:00pm

Returning from the Father/Son weekend, the Chargers were scheduled to face off against the Bay City Wolves for an SVL contest that could likely determine the league champion. The teams enter the game as #1 (Powers) and #2 (Bay City) in SVL league standings.

The Chargers got after it right from the start – controlling the play for the first five minutes with numerous opportunities but continued to miss the mark. Then on a failed zone clear at 11:53, the Wolves struck first when a Powers D-man screened Hunter Clark in close for the goal. Powers rallied back at 8:14 when Landon Miller, again with Powers starter goal, took a pass from Andrew Burny and Parker Bendall. With twenty seconds left in the opening period Owen Perry went end to end for an unassisted lamplighter off a sneaky backhand. Powers up 2-1.

Second period action began with a BC crosscheck at 16:20. A minute of power play then Bendall was called for a high stick at 15:05. The teams played 4-on-4 until the BC penalty expired, then Powers penalty kill went to work and burned up the remaining time. 10:58 Brody Neelands kept the puck in at the point, fired a pass to Andon Harwood for the shot and redirect by Ayden Cook to make the game 3-1. The Wolves were called for two additional penalties before the period ended but successfully defended against the Chargers strong power play.

Andrew Parmentier started the third period with a ripper off the post. On the next shift Burny (from Miller) found a wide-open Bendall in the slot for a top-shelf snipe (15:37). 4-1 Powers. Bay City was getting frustrated as Powers continued to step on the gas. The teams exchanged multiple penalties over several minutes (Burny -cross check, Harwood – Rough and (5) to BC). Then Cook connected on a powerplay goal assisted by Perry and Parmentier (10:07). Apparently, that was the breaking point for the BC goalie as he had some choice words for the ref and received a 10-minute misconduct requiring a replacement netminder to take over at 9:29. That didn’t work out well for BC as the Chargers went on the powerplay again. The puck moved around the perimeter from Perry to Parmentier to Burny in the middle for the goal (8:58). As the game wound down BC continued to keep the sin bin at max capacity and Powers’ Aiden Olah was called on a make-up call for tripping at 5:07. The game ended with no additional ruckus as Powers took the win 6-1 and lead of the SVL with a record of 4-0-0.

Next up, the Chargers face Division 3 (#1 Ranked) Orchard Lake St Mary’s at the Eaglets’ home ice on Friday for a 7:30 puck drop. It should be a doozy.

See you at the rink…
