Flint Powers Catholic's Jeff Polakowski scored twice to help the Chargers boys hockey team top visiting Detroit Country Day 4-2 on Saturday. Garrett Gormley scored a power play goal and had an assist, and Owen Spencer added a goal. Goalie Austin Kane made 24 saves for the win.
Detroit Country Day's Jack Bergmann scored two third-period goals.
"Most games we score quickly," Flint Powers coach Travis Perry said. "We want to come out with a lot of energy and jump on teams.
"I'd like to see us play three periods and not two and a half, but overall it was a good game against a quality opponent."
Powers Catholic next plays Wednesday against Grand Blanc.
"(It's a ) big rivalry game - anything could happen," Perry said. "We just want to come out and play hard, try to match their intensity. It's going to be a great hockey game, with a lot of fans and a great atmosphere."
