The Flint Powers hockey team ran headlong into a torrid goalie and had to settle for a 2-2 tie with Marysville on Saturday.

Marysville goalie Mike Gaffney stopped 57 shots to fend off a Flint Powers club which had won 12 of its last 13 prior to Saturday.

"Their goalie was amazing," Powers coach Travis Perry said. "It's not often you see a goalie stop nearly 60 shots in a game. They're a pretty good program and we take away a lot from this game. Usually when you get 60 shots you win the game."

Powers actually outshot Marysville 20-2 in the first period.

"I thought we played pretty good overall," Perry said.

Garrett Gormley and Spencer Owen scored for Powers (18-6-1).

Flint Powers will play its regional opener against Okemos on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Iceland Arena in East Lansing.
