The Flint Powers Catholic hockey team faced off against the team with the best uniforms in the Saginaw Valley League, the Bay City Wolves, last night at the Crystal Fieldhouse. Powers Junior forward Jon Thomas scored on the first shift of the game at 16:35 with assists from Senior defenseman Brendan Walker and Sophomore forward Cam Lieffers. Both teams would have multiple quality scoring chances for the remainder of the first period, but, the teams’ goalies, Bay City’s Jared Holsing and the Chargers’ Patrick Hoedeman cracked open a couple of cans of goal repellant and applied them liberally. The score was 1-0 at the end of the first period.

At 13:46 of the second period, Powers Junior forward Joe Schunck would slam home a goal from the left circle on assists from Senior forward Charlie Start and Sophomore forward Keigan Wildfong. A little over a minute later, No. 7 Chase Knoblock would check in with the first of his two goals. Sophomore defenseman Mac Diver and Sophomore forward Mason Weiss assisted. The teams adjourned to their respective locker rooms for intermission at the end of the second with Powers leading 3-0.

Jon Thomas would open the scoring in the third with his second goal of the game to give Powers a 4-0 lead. Junior defenseman Jake Polakowski had the helper. The Powers squad capped off its scoring with a goal by Chase Knoblock, his second, with assists from Mason Weiss, his second, and Junior forward Conor Witherspoon. The Wolves fought to the bitter end with a goal at 1:20 by forward Tyler David, who was assisted by defenseman Alec Bailey.

The Chargers face Mt. Pleasant at Crystal Fieldhouse on Wednesday, January 20 at 6:00 p.m.
