Powers Downs Davison 5-1, Hats off for Witherspoon

The Flint Powers Chargers faced off against their crosstown rivals Davison on Wednesday evening before a large crowd at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. Conor Witherspoon kicked off the scoring for Powers at 12:49 of the first period on an assist from Junior forward Noah Reeser. At 11:33, Junior forward Brendan Smith located the back of the net with assists from Junior forwards Jon Thomas and Chase Knoblock. Witherspoon buried Powers’ third goal of the period on a sweet pass across the crease from Sophomore forward Cam Lieffers. Freshman forward Mason Weiss had an assist as well. Powers went to the break up 3-0.

Davison got on the board at 9:59 of the second period with a goal from Junior forward Hogan Butler with the assist coming from defenseman John Brabaw. The second period ended with Powers ahead 3-1.

Powers shifted back into gear in the third with Conor Witherspoon’s hat trick goal at 12:33. Junior defenseman Keigan Wildfong received an assist as well as Cam Lieffers – his second of the game. Senior forward Charlie Start closed out the scoring with a goal at 8:04 on an assist from Junior defenseman Hans Hering.

Cardinals goalie Austin Eaton stopped a total of 35 shots. Powers goalie Senior Patrick Hoedeman (Happy Birthday, Patrick!) made 22 saves for the win.

Next up for Flint Powers is a home game at the Crystal Fieldhouse on Tuesday versus Saginaw Heritage with whom the Chargers are tied atop the Saginaw Valley league.
