Powers Defeats Midland 6-0

Flint Powers played its final regular season game on the road against the Dow High School Chemics on Friday at the Dow Civic Arena.

Junior forward Jon Thomas opened the scoring in the first at 3:53  when he found the back of the net with the assistance of Sophomore forward Cam Leiffers and Junior forward Conor Witherspoon. Junior forward Chase Knoblock got Powers on the board again at 16:04 with assists from Senior D-Man Brendan Walker and Freshman forward Mason Weiss. Cam Leiffers closed out the scoring for Flint in the first with a goal at 10:59. Mr. Leiffers was assisted by Jon Thomas and Conor Witherspoon. 3-0 in favor of Powers at the end of one.

Mason Weiss scored the Chargers’ lone goal in the second at 11:36 on assists from Brendan Walker and Junior forward Brendan Smith. Powers 4, Midland 0 at the end of two.

Mr. Weiss picked up where he left off with his second goal of the game at 8:27 of the third on an assist from Brendan Smith (his second helper of the contest). Powers closed out the scoring at 10:11 when Jon Thomas took it to the house for his second goal of the game. Conor Witherspoon got his playmaker assist on the Thomas goal. Final score Powers 6, Midland 0. Hats off to Senior goaltender Patrick Hoedeman for pitching a shut-out in his final regular season game.

Powers travels to Saginaw to take on the very tough Heritage Hawks in a Pre-Regional game at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
