Senior defenseman Garret Johnson’s 4 goals and a potent power play along with senior netminder Brady Stebbins’ solid goaltending keyed Powers’ win over Detroit Country Day on Saturday at the Southfield Civic Center.

A solid effort from Powers under difficult circumstances as the game was marred by a total of fourteen (14) penalties. Powers’ special teams proved exceptionally effective against the hard-hitting Yellowjackets.

Powers initiated the scoring at 9:17 of the first when Garret Johnson scored the first of his four on the power play with assists from senior forwards Brendan Smith and Conor Witherspoon. Powers went up 2-0 at 4:41 when junior forward Cam Lieffers found the back of the net with assistance from senior Captain Jake Polakowski and Brendan Smith for the Chargers second power play goal.

The second period featured physical play but no actual scoring.

Powers opened the scoring in the 3rd with Garrett Johnson’s second goal at 15:59. Witherspoon and Smith (playmaker) had the assists. At 12:20, senior forward Jon Thomas notched his first goal of the year on assists from seniors Noah Reeser and Conor Witherspoon (playmaker). Garrett Johnson scored his third and fourth goals 32 seconds apart at 9:36 and 9:04 with assists from junior Josh Warda (2), Jon Thomas and Chase Knoblock (welcome back, Chase!). Powers’ final goal of the game was scored by senior forward Joe Schunk with assists from Noah Reeser and junior forward Keigan Wildfong. Country Day avoided the shut-out at 1:06 of the third when sophomore defenseman Dalton Kujat scored from the point on an assist from junior forward Nathan Thewes.

The Chargers face off against the Grand Blanc Bobcats on Wednesday, November 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crystal Fieldhouse.
