The Chargers played host to Jackson Lumen Christi at Crystal Field House last night and proved to be rude hosts with an 8-0 victory. Senior goalie Brady Stebbins stood tall in his first shut-out of the season. In addition to the shut-out, Mr. Stebbins scored his first point of the year and shut down the Titans during two 5 on 3 power plays. Senior forwards Brendan Smith and Conor Witherspoon scored two goals each. Junior forwards Christian Wentworth, Cam Lieffers and Keigan Wildfong had two points each as did junior defenseman Carson Snyder and senior forward Chase Knoblock.

For the first eleven minutes of the first period, the Titans played hard, tough, tight-checking hockey keeping the game scoreless until the fatigue of a two-plus hour bus ride set in. The Titans will be a team to reckon with in the future - they are skilled, big and fast.

Scoring kicked off at 6:14 of the first when Conor Witherspoon scored the first of his two with the assist going to Christian Wentworth.  At 2:26, senior forward Chase Knoblock made it rain with his first goal of the season with assists from Cam Lieffers and Christian Wentworth. The Chargers closed out the period with Brendan Smith’s first of the evening from Witherspoon and junior forward Mason Weiss. 3-0 Powers after one.

Lumen Christi was able to catch its breath at intermission as they came back and held Powers scoreless until 6:35 when junior forward Sam Lechel scored with assists from line mate Cam Conover and team captain Jake Polakowski. Just over two minutes later, senior forward Joe Schunck put the biscuit in the basket with the assistance of Messrs. Snyder and Wildfong. Junior forward Cam Lieffers located the back of the net with 1:00 remaining in the second period on assists from Chase Knoblock and netminder Brady Stebbins, who made a beautiful outlet pass to start the rush. 6-0 after two periods of play.

Conor Witherspoon initiated the scoring for Powers in the third when he notched his second goal of the game at 13:15 with assists from Keigan Wildfong and Carson Snyder. Senior forward Brendan Smith sent the crowd home early when he scored at 10:11 of the third. Keigan Wildfong (playmaker) and senior defenseman Hans Hering assisted.

The Chargers are now faced with the daunting prospect of going on the road for sixteen of their next seventeen against extremely formidable competition including Saginaw Heritage, U of D Jesuit, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s and this Saturday versus perennial D3 powerhouse Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
