Flint Powers Defeats Chelsea

The Chargers rolled in to Chelsea Saturday night and rolled out with an 8-0 victory to remain undefeated.

Senior forward Conor Witherspoon got the ball rolling for Powers with the first of two goals at 11:37 of the first period. Witherspoon was assisted by line mates Brendan Smith and Mason Weiss. Witherspoon scored a power play goal at 1:37 as the Chargers swarmed the net. Mason Weiss and Brendan Smith had the assists. The teams went to the intermission with Powers ahead 2-0.

Brendan Smith kicked off the scoring for the Chargers 37 seconds into the second period with the first of his four goals. Senior defenseman Jake Polakowski and Conor Witherspoon assisted on the Smith goal. Less than three minutes later, Mr. Smith netted his second goal with the assistance of line mates Weiss and Witherspoon. Approximately 2 minutes later, senior forward Jon Thomas found the back of the net at 10;57. Senior defenseman Garrett Johnson and senior forward Chase Knoblock had the helpers. At 7:01, Brendan Smith scored the Chargers’ fourth goal of the period. Mason Weiss (Texas Playmaker) and Conor Witherspoon (Playmaker) assisted. 6-0 in favor of the Chargers at the end of two periods of play.

Chelsea kept the Chargers off the board until 2:26 of the third when junior forward Cam Leiffers scored with the able assistance of line mates Sam Lechel and Cam Conover. Senior forward Brendan Smith iced the cake for Powers at 1:07 of the third with his Texas hat trick goal. Senior defenseman Jake Polakowski and sophomore Carson Snyder had the assists.

Adam Cantley stopped 14 shots for his third consecutive shut-out.
