CHARGERS DEFENSE LIMITS CARDINALS TO 4 SHOTS

The Flint Powers Chargers returned home to the Crystal Field House last night to take on SVL Conference rivals Davison. An impressive crowd watched as the Powers defense limited Davison to just 4 shots for the entire game. All 4 shots occurred in the third period as Powers rolled to a 6-0 victory.

Powers’ first goal of the game occurred at 9:24 of the first period when sophomore Luke Evo, making his debut with the Chargers, found the back of the net with the assistance of senior defenseman Garrett Johnson and senior forward Jon Thomas. At 8:04, it was Jon Thomas’ turn to take one to the house. He was assisted by senior forwards Conor Witherspoon and Brendan Smith. Conor Witherspoon, not wanting to be left out, scored at 4:57. Luke Evo and sophomore defenseman Carson Snyder assisted on Witherspoon’s goal. 3-0 Powers after one period of play.

The Chargers made it 4-0 in the second at 9:32 when Luke Evo scored his second goal of the game on assists from Garrett Johnson (his second) and Jon Thomas.

In the third, Jon Thomas made it 5-0 in favor of Powers with his second goal of the game at 9:28. Conor Witherspoon (his second) and senior defenseman/ team captain Jake Polakowski assisted on the Thomas goal. Senior forward Brendan Smith completed the scoring for Powers at 5:42 with assists from senior defenseman Mac Diver and sophomore Mason Weiss.

Kudos to Davison’s senior goalie Conner McDowell who played an outstanding game despite the final score. Mr. McDowell was under relentless pressure the entire game and yet managed to stone the Chargers on multiple occasions.

Congratulations are also in order for sophomore goaltender Parker Rey, who pitched a shut-out in his Powers debut as well as sophomore forward Luke Evo for his auspicious start as a member of the Chargers with two goals and an assist.

The Chargers are bound for Indianapolis Friday on their annual Father/Son trip where they will face Zionsville and Carmel Gold.
