The Flint Powers Chargers are making the most of their season-ending home stand as they defeated the Farmington High School Falcons on Saturday by a score of 8-0.

The first period was a fairly intense one as the Chargers poured shot after shot on the Falcons goaltender, Hunter Firestone. Mr. Firestone kept the game scoreless through the first period with stellar goaltending including an epic glove save on a Powers forward who got in alone on him.

In the second period, the Chargers were finally able to get one behind the Falcons goalie when senior forward Jon Thomas scored the first of his two goals at 14:43 with assists from junior forward Christian Wentworth and El Capitano Jake Polakowski. At 10:04, senior forward Conor Witherspoon drove one home with assists from senior forwards Brendan Smith and Chase Knoblock.  2-0 Powers at the end of two periods of play.

In the third period, the Chargers put six goals on the board. First up at 14:37, Agent Smith lit the lamp on assists from sophomore forward Luke Evo and Chase Knoblock (his second). Forty-five seconds later, Christian Wentworth buried one with the assistance of junior forward Cam Lieffers and senior d-man Garrett Johnson. At 7:27, Christian Wentworth checked in with his second goal of the game. Mr. Wentworth was assisted by Jon Thomas and junior forward Keigan Wildfong. Jon Thomas stuffed the turkey, unassisted, for the second time at 4:08. Less than 20 seconds later, Brendan Smith made it 7-0 in favor of Powers. Luke Evo and Conor Witherspoon set the table for Mr. Smith’s goal. Chase Knoblock closed it out at 1:45 on an assist by senior defenseman Hans Hering.

A tip of the cap to the reigning Central Region Player of the Week sophomore goalie Parker Rey, who stopped 13 shots en route to his second consecutive shut-out.

Powers will take on their SVL rivals the Midland Chemics on Wednesday, February 15 at the Crystal Field House.
