Number two ranked Flint Powers played host to Notre Dame Prep on the ice Wednesday night at Crystal Fieldhouse. The high-powered Chargers offense proved to be too much for the Fighting Irish as they wore down NDP by scoring one goal in first period, one goal in the second period and finally three goals in the third period to earn a 5-0 shutout.

Sam Lechel got the scoring started in the first period when Luke Evo won a faceoff in the Irish zone, chipped the puck past the opposing center and over to a wide open Lechel who buried it to get the Chargers on the board 1-0.

Midway through the second period Cam Conover joined in by ripping a clapper past the NDP net minder off a Josh Warda drop pass putting Powers up 2-0.

Conover took a Christian Wentworth pass, cut through the slot and scored again for his second goal of the game to open the third period. Minutes later, the Chargers began to pull away when Tyler Lotter buried a pass from Mike Rinoldo expanding the lead to 4-0 for the orange and blue. As time was winding down, Lechel found the back of the net for his second goal of the game and his team leading 23rd tally of the season putting the Irish away for good 5-0.

Powers goalie Brent Zloto was solid between the pipes turning back all Irish scoring chances and earning the shutout.

Next up, the Chargers travel to Trenton Friday for a State Semi-Final rematch with Calumet Copper Kings in the MIHL Showcase.
